This month has been a complete whirlwind. What planet can I blame for this? I have been feeling trapped, frustrated, and volatile to say the least. When life hands you a good bout of existential dread, it usually (in my experience) means you need to make a change. Though I have not necessarily landed on my feet, I do feel like I have reoriented myself somewhat thanks to all of the chaos.

As I sit down to write this reflection there is a lot on my mind. Throughout February I experienced a whole spectrum of emotions and states of being. I began the month full of inspiration; I was excited to get back into my school routine and excited to be back in New York after spending most of January at home in Atlanta. I visited my sister in Boston (which was wonderful), I got to catch up with old friends, and I had a lot of realizations about relationships and the people I surround myself with.

Against all odds, I’ve been very pleased with the first few weeks of 2017 – I think this new year will be full of surprises and exciting changes for all of us. Our political climate is shifting immensely, and there is a lot of energy moving through the world. It can be really difficult to feel happy when so many horrible things are happening around us, but striking a balance between staying positive and not forgetting about helping other people is really important – and difficult. There are so many things I wish I could change or make disappear, but they’re not things one person can do.
